ANDRA CLITAN
Andra Clitan studied fashion design at the University of Arts and Design in Cluj-Napoca, focusing on Decorative Arts and Design. Additionally, she studied similar courses at the Ecole Superieure des Arts Decoratifs in Strasbourg, as well as Central Saint Martins in London.
Her collections, among which “The making of the self” (which she presented at the Romanian Fashion Week), “Segmentations”, “Mara Mi” (presented at the “Catwalk” festival) talk about fashion-object (?) and traditional art. Whether they are inspired by other peoples – as in the case of the collection presented at the graduation of her Master studies, based on a study of the religious Hindu identity – or profoundly Romanian – as in the case of “Mara Mi” or “My Maramures” – the traditions, the traditional costume, the handicrafts with everything they require (fabrics, working techniques) represent the starting inspirational point for Andra Clitan’s creations. The materials employed remind us of handmade textiles and embroidery, as well as the handmade knitwear, employed in great sizes and unexpected dimensions. All of these metamorphose in Andra’s hands, transforming into contemporary fashion designs, combined with a feeling of intimacy/familiarity which makes them irresistible. This text will be replaced
